John Ira Bishop, Sr., 83 passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. He was born on January 14, 1930 in Summit, Georgia, to the late Mary and Fred Bishop, and at the age of six moved with his family to Vero Beach, Florida. He graduated from Vero Beach High School, Stetson University and USCG OCS, achieving the rank of Commander upon his retirement. He moved to Jacksonville in 1956 and embarked on a long and prosperous career as a CPA. He was a partner at Hall and Fisher for many years and in 1977 started his own practice, which later evolved into Bishop and Draper. He married Lynda Clayman on December 20, 1957, and they enjoyed 55 years together. He is predeceased by his parents, brother, Paul Bishop, and beloved daughter, Julie Ann Bishop.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Lynda, son John I. Bishop, Jr., (Carol), and grandchildren John I. Bishop, III, and David B. Bishop. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert Bishop (Dottie) and Gene Bishop (Miriam), his sister, Joyce Strickland (Vernon), and many nieces and nephews.
John loved bird hunting, playing golf, fishing and the Florida Gators. He was a long-time member of San Jose County Club and the Seminole Club and served on the Board for University Hospital Teaching Clinic.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday, February 1, 2013 in Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Funeral Home located at 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville FL.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 10:00am on Saturday, February 2, 2013 in followed by interment in Oaklawn Cemetery.
