Joan “Joanie” Telfair Nesbitt Eller passed away on June 15, 2023, with family by her side after a courageous battle with a brain tumor. Joanie was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on July 30, 1947 to parents Harrison Wadsworth Nesbitt, Sr. and Henrietta King Broome Nesbitt (Peppy). She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1966 and attended North Florida Junior College in Madison, FL. She married John “Jack” Harrison Eller May 31, 1969, and they spent 50 loving years together.
Joanie was a member of The Colonial Dames, past member of The Junior League of Jacksonville, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, The Florida Yacht Club, and a volunteer for the ALS Association. Joanie was a very loving and caring person and spread sunshine everywhere she went. She loved her family and friends greatly and always put them first. One of her main missions in life was to keep family together and traditions alive. There was nothing she cherished more.
She is survived by her two sons, John Harrison Eller, Jr. (Hope) and Phillip Stockton Eller. Grandchildren Ashley Howton Eller, Anderson Nesbitt Eller and Baker Harrison Eller. She is also survived by her sister, Edith Ann Griffin (DeeDee) (husband Denny) and brother Harrison Wadsworth Nesbitt, Jr. (Patsy), sister-in-law Joanne Eller Bell and many, many cousins, nieces, and nephews too many to name – you know are you are!
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Harrison Eller, Sr.; parents, Harrison Wadsworth Nesbitt, Sr. and Henrietta King Broome Nesbitt "Peppy; grandparents, Phillip Stockton Broome and Edith Gowanlock Broome, and Anna May Clark Nesbitt and McGregor Nesbitt.
A celebration of her life will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Tuesday, June 20th at 1:00 pm, with a reception immediately following at The Florida Yacht Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to The ALS Association, in honor of Jack Eller (www.alsafl.org - 3242 Parkside Center Cir, Tampa, FL 33619), or the Waves of Gray - 5K Brain Cancer/Tumor Awareness Walk (www.wavesofgray.org), in honor of Joanie Eller, or to a charity of your choice.
