A graduate of Andrew Jackson High School, she earned her Dental Hygiene certification at West Liberty State College in West Virginia.
As her mother would say, “She got an education up North and brought back a ‘Yankee’ when she married Andrew Sabol in May of 1955”. (Andy passed away Dec. 3, 2016) She and Andy were not only husband and wife but the dearest of friends for over 65 years. They loved the company of each other!
Joanie played many roles: daughter, sister, wife, care-giver, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, church landscaper, Girl Scout leader, Ronald McDonald House volunteer, Meals-on-Wheels driver, supporter to all. Her greatest pleasures came from “doing for others” and working in her yard.
She and her kitchen were always ready to bake another batch of Vacuum Cleaner Bars or Chinese Chews for some worthwhile cause…or just to please her family.
Joan is survived by her son, Mark (Deborah) and daughter, Tricia. Grandchildren Will (McKenzie), Jordan, Clay (Zara) and Drew, and 3 great-grandchildren, Grey, Elliana and Bohdi.
A Memorial Service for Joan will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 11:00 am at Faith United Methodist Church, 4000 Spring Park Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32207. Rev. Barry Andrews will officiate. The family will receive visitors in the church fellowship hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Jacksonville, 824 Children's Way, Jacksonville, FL 32207 https://p2p.onecause.com/rmhcdonate/donate
