Joan Rochelle Freidlin (Glickstein) passed suddenly and peacefully on the evening of March 27th. Born and raised in Jacksonville, FL and made it her home until her passing. Joan was born to loving parents Murray and Rose Glickstein. Nine years later the family would welcome another baby girl, Marilyn. The family made wonderful memories along Jacksonville’s beaches at a home her grandparents owned. Joan was on the flag team at Landon High School.
After graduating high school she met a sweet guy named Al that was attending The University of Florida. They would soon marry on May 19th, 1956 and start a family. The first to come was Lori born in the fall, September 29th 1958. A few years later, Cynthia was born in the summer of 1961 in June.
Joan was a stay at home mother and a house wife. She enjoyed being social attending parties and playing tennis. As well, she could always be found during the day watching her soap operas. Joan and Al enjoyed many activities while living in the Baymeadows community. The family made time to always visit with grandparents for backyard bbq”s and celebrating the Jewish high holidays.
Later in life Al and Joan would welcome their two grandchildren, William Charles Weinaug and Ashley Rose Weinaug a shining light in their lives. They would visit with the kids often in Orlando, attending high school and college graduations. Today Billy owns a business in Orlando and married his sweetheart Samantha. They enjoy National parks and the outdoors. Joan welcomed this year a new family member, the one and only great grandchild Sydney Mae Weinaug.
Joan and Al’s granddaughter Ashley Rose lived in NYC for 6.5 years and then made the move to Barcelona, Spain 4 years ago, where she works and enjoys her passion for travel.
Al and Joan would later move to River Garden Hebrew Home. It was familiar and home to many old friends they were able to rekindle friendships with. Joan enjoyed social time there as well. She was found often walking the halls visiting, attending bingo and making arts and crafts. A treat she looked forward to was Lori bringing her a bbq or seafood dinner they would enjoy together. Her last few months she got to meet Sydney Mae, and fell in love with her great granddaughter.
Surviving family members are daughters Lori Freidlin, Cynthia Graeber, sister Marilyn Ladis, grandchildren Billy Weinaug (Samantha Weinaug), Ashley Rose Weinaug, great granddaughter Sydney Mae Weinaug, many cousins, as well as her niece and nephew. She is preceded in death by her husband Alfred Freidlin and her parents, Murray and Rose Glickstein, as well as her brother in law Melvin Freidlin.
A graveside service for Joan will be held Friday, March 31, 2023 at 10:30 AM in New Center Cemetery, E 43rd St. and Liberty St., Jacksonville, FL 32206.
