

Jo Ann Penland, also known as Jo Penland, peacefully passed into the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ on January 3, 2024, at the age of 80 in her hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. Born on February 12, 1943, to her late parents (Elvira and Harvey Garland), Jo Ann’s life is a testament to her faith and to the grace she received from the Lord throughout her years on this earth. Jo Ann will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children: Paul Penland, Kristin Penland, and Phil Penland (Carol Penland), and by her numerous friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tim Penland. We eagerly anticipate the coming Day when we will all be reunited in the presence of the Lord.
Jo Ann was a remarkable woman who demonstrated incredible strength and unwavering love. She had a gentle spirit and did not hold onto grudges when mistreated. Her faith in God and His word was evident in her daily life, as she trusted Him silently while seeking to cultivate a worshipful and forgiving heart. She counseled her loved ones with wisdom that was at once gentle, firm, and loving. Jo Ann’s devotion to the Lord is also reflected in her private notes and highlights found in her beloved devotional books, which focus on trusting God’s love and providence, resisting worry, and expressing gratitude.
Aside from her spiritual journey, Jo Ann was an exceptional cook. Her culinary expertise was something all her friends and family enjoyed immensely! Her vast library of cookbooks and her treasured recipe cards were not merely a collection but a ministry of nourishment, serving up joy to countless individuals over the years. Her home, always a haven of hospitality, reflected the generosity of her spirit.
Throughout her husband’s career in film production, distribution, and marketing, Jo Ann wholeheartedly supported him as an astute and dedicated business partner. She was regarded with the utmost respect by everyone who collaborated with them and knew her.
Educated at Englewood High School and Jones Business College in Jacksonville, FL, Jo Ann’s life was one of continuous learning and growth.
In her free time, Jo Ann indulged in her hobbies, which, in addition to cooking, included tending to her cherished plants and reading scripture. These activities brought her joy and comfort and enhanced her creative and nurturing spirit.
Jo Ann Penland remains a remarkable woman, who left an indelible mark on the lives of those that know her. We thank God for making her our mom!
A small private service will be held in Jacksonville, FL as loved ones gather to celebrate a life so beautifully lived.
