James “Jim” Augustine Mattingly Jr., 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, February 29, 2020. Jim was born May 7, 1942, in Louisville, KY, and was the middle son of the late Francis “Tootsie” Mattingly. Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Joesph “Joe” Mattingly. Jim and Joe moved to Jacksonville, Florida, to be closer to their sister, Gladys, in the early 60’s.
Jim served in the Army National Guard from 1964 to 1969. He was an entrepreneur at heart and started his own business, The Decorators Workshop. He and his wife, Libby, operated the business fabricating and installing custom window treatments until his retirement in 2007. Jim was also passionate about classic cars and cherished his 1957 Chevy Belair. He loved to garden and maintained a beautiful koi pond for many years. He was a late night guitarist, amateur landscape painter, and avid boxing fan. What Jim loved most was time spent with his family. He leaves behind a loving legacy: his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth “Libby" Mattingly; twin daughters, Jamie Mattingly and Jessica Kennedy (Ben); grandchildren, Olivia, Ryden, Lawson, and Ben, VI; sister, Gladys Maxwell; sister-in-law, Sherry Mattingly; niece, Angela VanFossen (Greg); nephew, Travis Mattingly; and many more adored extended family.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13th, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel Legacy Lodge located at 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL, 32207. The service will be held at Oaklawn’s Legacy Lodge on Saturday, March 14th, at 1:00pm with a motorcade procession to Evergreen Cemetery and concluding with a celebration of life at Oaklawn Chapel Legacy Lodge.
