We are fortunate to join a koi club which Jim was a member. Through our conversations we learned that Jim was an Aficionado of cars. We too enjoyed going to car shows and look forward to seeing if we would see Jim. He would always say remember to vote for my car when he did enter.  He had a positive outlook always.  You will be missed but never forgotten. Fair Winds and following Seas.

Jim Mattingly was one of a kind.   What an impact he made on our lives and in our community.   I was blessed that  “the little  twin people “ were dear friends to MaryAshley, since before Kindergarten.   Jim was always building, creating, and fixing things; at HendricksAvenue Elementary  School, for our Brownie troop,  our Girl Scout troop, etc.   He made everything fun and everything right.   
Thank you for inspiring us to be better people, Jim.

Sending sympathy and love to each of you.  I always loved to go to Jacksonville to visit my aunts and cousins. There was never a dull moment! When I look at Jim’s picture I can hear his laughter. He was always so funny, so kind and so loving. He always took me to the beach in his 1957 Chevy Belair. I will treasure those memories forever.!! May God bless and comfort each of you. You sure were blessed with an amazing man in your lives💙

I met Jim approximately 1975 as we both shared a passion of motorcycles. Jim frequently entered his custom motorcycle in the Daytona Beach Bike Week custom bike show. I remember one year he told me that he and Libby were getting married and then the year that he was so excited that he was going to have twins. Jim was a compassionate friendly loving man that I'm sure will be sorely missed.  My heart goes out to you Libby. I'm sorry for the loss of your lifelong partner, the girl's father and  a friend to so many.

Imagine watching your first-born son drive away with his new bride. This is my earliest memory associated with Jim, and I was terrified - not because our children were starting their lives together - but because my son was driving Jim’s beloved 57! The magnitude of Jim letting his new son-in-law drive that car was not lost on my son or me. (It also shows that he did not know my son’s driving record.) Fast forward a few years, and grandchildren arrived. I loved sharing birthdays and holidays with the other Grands! Jim always had a twinkle in his eyes around his grandchildren. The grandkids and I would get down on the floor and build an elaborate zoo or a glittering castle in the sky with him.  We would cook a ten course meal in a toy kitchen or watch an epic battle fought by three brave Ninjas. Throughout all these memories, Jim’s infectious laughter and mischievous smile stand out. And yes, he would occasionally get the grandkids into trouble. Fast forward a few more years. My daughter was in the hospital and our front door’s lock had broken. I came home to find Jim busily replacing the lock. I do not think that I ever properly thanked him for doing that. But I do know that I am thankful his four grandchildren had the chance to love and enjoy him. I am thankful for the kindness, gentleness, strength, and fun he exemplified for them. Their lives are richer because of him, and so is mine. I will miss you, Jim!








Jim helped out our Flyball team several times at tournaments. I loved joking around with him, as he was a genuinely funny guy. I also asked him to videotape some of our races. Well, I know that I am a hard one to please with videography- “turn it horizontally “, “pan left to right”., “ be sure to get the time board at the end!.” Yes, I am a micromanager about that. Yet, Jim never once flinched, at least not to my face, and the videos he took were perfection. He wanted me to be happy with the videos of my dogs, and that kindness  and willingness to help others permeated his entire life. 
I feel terribly for those he left behind. I pray for peace and comfort for those who grieve his loss.

When Danny called with the news of Jim’s passing it left an immediate emptiness in my heart. He was the best person that I ever introduced myself to at a car show.   I was so impressed with his 57 that I had to have a picture of it and him.   As a patient he was always appreciative of the care he received and he brought the rest of the family to our practice.  I enjoyed treating your family until I retired.   Most of all I will miss him as a friend!!  We shared a passion for cars and enjoyed many conversations about cars and car restoration.   Prayers for your family in this tough time!

I am so sorry for your loss girls. I know how much you loved your father and he loved you. You didnt have to be a close family member to see the loving family your father took care of. He adores you all and is always with you. My prayers for you both and your family♡

 As well as I,my 2  boys loved him as well. Fun at all times at the car shows. He never failed to care about others especially every time he saw me he asked me about my son, That had become terminally ill. He was a great man and will be missed by his family and all that surrounded him. RIP  57 JIM. 🙏🙏🙏

My favorite Jimmy memory involves laughter. Well, of course it does because he was the embodiment of happiness.  Gene Sr., my boys and I were over at Joe and Sherry’s.  Joe had passed and Sherry was getting the house ready to go on the market. We were all pretty emotional and were sitting out in the carport talking .  They (Gene and Jimmy) were telling stories about Joe and fun times together.  Jimmy started telling a story about being in the car with Gladys and Joe.  He said they passed a gas station and he commented about the gas station having ethanol free gas.  He could barely get through this part of the story because he kept laughing.  In fact all of us were laughing because he was laughing so hard at the memory.   Anyway, he said  Gladys,  who had been very thoughtful after passing the gas station,  said very seriously, “Joe, I think we should go see about getting some of that free gas”.   Joe nearly ran off the road laughing .  Jimmy’s  blue eyes cried with laughter!  A great moment to have shared!  My love to all of you who loved him so well.  He cherished each of you! 

Knew Jim for a long time. Known a lot of people in my lifetime. I can honestly say that I can think of nothing negative about this fine good hearted man. Been through thick and thin with our family and always positive, understanding and just a pleasure to sit around and yak with. Read Tim's memory and I know exactly what Tim is talking about.  Gonna miss him,  his kind heart and lack of pretensions. Take care or him Lord. He was one of the good ones!

I remember the first time that Tim met Jim, he had been to a show at The Jacksonville Landing.  He and Jim had talked at the Landing and Jim told him about the cruise in at Merrill Road so he went and they hung out and talked the whole time. When he got home Tim went on and on about this new friend that he'd met named Jim Mattingly.   He talked about what a great person he seemed to be and that he's just down to earth.  I have never seen Tim so impressed by a person but when I met Jim I understood, he just left you feeling good.  So sweet and thoughtful and ready for whatever comes with life.  We will miss his sense of humor, storytelling and his friendship most of all. Jim you will always be the President of The Big Wheel Club.  To Libby and the girls and their families, all our Love, you are all in our thoughts and prayers.
