

Jerome “Jerry” Wendell, 80, of Jacksonville, Fl. Passed away on Sunday September 22, 2013. Mr. Wendell was born October 4, 1932. He graduated from St. Josephs Academy where he was their school newspaper Editor and Captain of the men’s basketball team. In 1953 he was honorably discharged from the Florida National Guard where he had served as the Public Information Officer. He was also a member of the American Red Cross Volunteer Life Saving Corps for a number of years before joining the Alumni Association. He was also a past member of the Inland Beach Boulevard Lions Club, and served as their newspaper Editor.
He was employed by the Jacksonville Journal and the Florida Times Union for 33 years before retiring in 1995 as the Retail Advertising Supervisor. During the time he was also the Advertising Director for the daily Publication “Clay Today.”
He was a big Florida Gator fan and an avid golfer for 50 years. He is predeceased in death by his wife of 32 years Gina Wendell. He is survived by his daughter Lee Ann Wendell Joudi, son Gary Wendell, granddaughters Denis Scarborough, Suzanne Chapman, Jennifer Joudi, great-granddaughters Taylor and Haylee Scarborough, Makayla and Makenzie Chapman, and sister Ginger Pierce.
Arrangements are under the care of Hardage-Giddens Hendricks Chapel 4115 Hendricks Avenue (904) 346-3808. This Friday September 27, there will be a visitation at the Hendricks Chapel from 11am to 1:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at the same location at 1:00 pm with Reverend Dan Cooley officiating.
