Jere was a graduate of Florida State University and retired from the State of Florida, Agency for Healthcare Administration. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force (Military Police) and served in Vietnam. He held a distinguished career with the State of Florida, Departments of Alcohol, Beverage, and Tobacco, Criminal Justice Law Enforcement Standards, and Public Assistance Welfare Fraud, and was a police officer with the Florida State University Police Department. He volunteered as a PTO President, at a fire department and many years with the American Red Cross.
Jere was highly involved in his Church where he served as a member of the Vestry, on a Prison Ministry team, and Cursillo, a movement focused on Christianity. He was a lively resident member of Wyndham Lakes Senior Living Community to include membership in the Senior Serenaders Choir Group and elected to serve as the Resident Council President.
Predeceased was his loving wife, Katherine. Surviving family members include his daughter Jennifer (Pat) Bodine (Jacksonville, FL), daughter Mandi (Tallahassee, FL), grandchildren Justin, Courtney, Mackenzie, and Mia. Jere was a loving father, proud grandfather, friend to all, and touched the lives of so many.
Jere will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a humorist, entertainer, charismatic, thoughtful, caring, and proud patriot of the US Armed Services. The family wishes to acknowledge the management, nurses and staff of Wyndham Lakes Senior Living Community for their kindness, care, respect, compassion, and friendship shown at all times.
A Celebration of Life Memorial for Jere is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. October 6, 2018 at the Wyndham Lakes Senior Living Community located at 10660 Old St. Augustine Rd., Jacksonville, Florida 32257. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wyndham Lakes Country Store or the Vietnam Veterans of America.
