Jean Carol Hattaway Hicks born February 5, 1930 in Cordele, Ga. died peacefully January 24, 2021 in Miami, Fl. She was predeceased by her parents Paul and Sara Hattaway, her husband, William (Bill) M. Hicks, her former husband, Miller Van Allen, Jr. and her son Van Allen, III. She is survived by her children Paul Allen (Keli) of Valrico, Fl, Sandi Safier (Rick) of Sugar Land, Tx, Teri Schmidt (Bill) of Alpharetta, Ga, her stepchildren Wiley Hicks (Amy) of Coral Gables, Fl and Harrison Hicks, 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, her sister, Sissy Barker (Jim), her niece, several nephews, and many cousins.
Jean lived most of her young life in Jacksonville, Fl where she graduated from Landon High School in 1948. She attended Florida State University. She and Bill loved to travel and had many wonderful trips both abroad and in the U.S. She most enjoyed being with her family and they all enjoyed getting together at her mountain home every summer for a family reunion.
Jean was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Coral Gables, Fl, a member of the Coral Reef Yacht Club. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed many close friends. She loved spending six months each year at her home in Sapphire, NC where she also enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Jean was a woman of deep faith, unconditional love of others, and a generous heart.
There will be a private graveside service at Oaklawn Cemetery, Jacksonville, Fl on February 6th.
