Jean Darden Pullen Covil, Jacksonville, Florida, died after a long and happy life. She and her twin sister, Joan, were born to William Statham and Claribel Smith Pullen in Asheville, NC and were an April Fool surprise as there was only one baby expected. She married Edward Grayson Covil in 1956 in Wilmington, NC and moved to Jacksonville with the now CSX Railroad in 1964. She was predeceased by her parents as well as her husband, Edward, in 2001 and her twin sister Joan Pullen Lanier in 1991. She is survived by two loving daughters Grayson of New York City and Lorrie Stuart (Robert) and a precious granddaughter Lauren Coville Stuart. Jean was a multi talented person who always had to have an entrepreneurial task going on-custom dressmaking, needlework, decoupage purses, doll making and jewelry making. As she became older, cooking and baking became her favorite pastime and she loved sharing her food with those she loved. She loved organizing things and started a chapter of Embroiderer’s Guild of America while living in Wilmington, NC in 1985 and opened a needlework shop in Wilmington as well while living there. She started a chapter of the Red Hatters while living at the Carriage Club in Jacksonville. She was actively involved in the various Sunday School classes, committee work and taught conversational English to the foreign born at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church for several years. She loved being involved in her girls’ lives and was a Girl Scout leader, troop organizer as well as room mother and PTA president at Holiday Hill Elementary School. Most of all, Jean loved people. Each friend was special to her and she made everyone who knew her feel special. Her greatest joy in life was being needed and being able to fulfill that need. We know God will use that talent to its fullest advantage in her life hereafter. Jean also leaves behind very special people in her life, Susie and Rick Jones ,who treated her like their Mother and in whose loving arms she was taken care of in her last years. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32223 (904)288-0025 www.hgmandarin.com.
