J. C. Chandler, Jr was born October 19, 1934 in DeKalb County, Alabama the fourth child of J. C. Sr.and Sarah Elizabeth (Sally) Wood Chandler. The older children were Rilla Irene, Milton Garfield, and Adrian Ahas. He passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2019 after a brief illness.
JC was in sales for three companies, Foremost Dairy, J and L Distributors , and Safety Kleen Incorporated. During retirement, JC and Evelyn worked as the school bus driver and attendant for special needs children attending Mandarin Oaks Elementary for over 14 years. It was in doing this service many children felt Grandpa and Grandma JC were their grandparents.
JC and his family are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Jacksonville Florida South Stake. He loved giving service and held various callings in the Church. JC and Evelyn also served a mission for the Church as managers of the Bishops’ Storehouse in Jacksonville from 1999 – 2000.
JC loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He enjoyed family time, farming, bowling, giving service, camping, shopping, vacations, and parties.
JC is survived by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn; daughters, Pam Alder (Rick), Renea Chandler; son, Phil Chandler (Wendy); eight granddaughters, Amy Alder, Shelly Hand (Bryan), Devon Steinhour (Neal), Lisa Alder, Erin Creel (Charles), Lindsey Costa (Jason), Lauren Carver (Bram), and Carley Strong (Devin), and 15 great grandchildren, Ethan Hand, Austin Freel, Riley Hand, Zachary Creel, Eli Steinhour, Dylan Steinhour, Nora Creek, Emma Hand, Morgan Steinhour, Joni Costa, Jude Costa, Lola Carver, Landon Carver, Jade Strong, and Roland Strong.
JC was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister, and eldest brother.
Our family wishes to express our love and gratitude to the many family members, friends, doctors, nurses, surgery teams, hospice employees, neighbors, and others who helped, prayed, visited, called, or expressed love to JC during the last three weeks. It was strongly felt by our family. We pray for our Heavenly Father’s blessings on all of you.
