HOPKINS - Janet Elaine Hopkins (nee Hilton) died April 17 in Jacksonville, Florida, after a brief illness. She was born in Viroqua, Wisconsin August 13, 1934. She lived in La Crosse most of her life, and graduated from Central High School in 1952. She married her high school sweetheart Donald Hopkins in 1954.
Janet worked for several La Crosse companies, including the family business, Handi Gadgets, for many years. She was also an active volunteer with the Coulee Council on Addictions, where she was named Volunteer of the Year in the early 1980s for her contributions.
Janet and Don retired and moved to coastal North Carolina in 1990. They spent almost a decade there before moving to Jacksonville, Florida in 1999 to be closer to their daughter.
Janet is survived by her husband of 65 years, Donald, her daughter Candace Moody (Thomas Moody) of Jacksonville, Florida, son Brian Hopkins (Irene TenEyck) of La Crosse, Wisconsin, granddaughters Andrea Tweed of La Crosse and Dorinda Knuteson of Madison, and her sister Cheryl Paar and her family of Onalaska, Wisconsin.
