Born in Tampa, FL, Jim moved to Jacksonville and graduated in the Andrew Jackson class of 1950 where he met the love his life, Patricia (Teska) Register, together they enjoyed sixty-nine years of marriage.
Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. With Pat’s support he earned a bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Florida. The following year, State Farm Insurance recruited him. Jim completed the MBA program at the University of North Florida. School was never out. A voracious reader and mentor. After 35 years, Jim retired as State Farm’s Director of Education and Training for the Southeastern Region.
Travel, the love for the outdoors, cars (only black) and his family made him happy. Countless weekends were spent boating. A master repairman, there were few tasks out of reach, usually a fix the boys broke. Jim always devoted his time to his church; first, Mayfair Baptist, then Deermeadows Baptist, where he served as Chairman of the Deacon board and on the building committee and was always willing to organize a campaign or lead a class. In retirement, he worked ten years in his son’s State Farm Agency as an Ambassador of First Impressions and Director of Everything. He never backed away from a challenge and also served as Chairman of the Deercreek Homeowners Association.
Predeceased by his parents, Foy Pasco Register and Lillie Mae Register (Roebuck). Jim is survived by his soulmate, Patricia; sons; Jim Jr (Sue) and Jerry; grandson, Brian (Grace); great-grandchildren, Hampton Foy and Wade Catherine.
For a Florida Man who needs no introduction, Jim is smiling down on us and looking for his next assignment.
A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held privately by Graveside, Friday, February 5th in Webster, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southside Baptist Church in Jim’s honor.
