Jim is survived by his wife, Tamara “Tami” Loftis Powell, of Jacksonville, FL; his son, James, and his son Jonathan (Taylor Henderson) all of Jacksonville, FL; his daughter Kristen Melvin (James Melvin) of Ridgeland, SC; his step-son Corey Loftis of Pensacola, FL and his step-daughter Lillianne Loftis of Jacksonville, FL; and his granddaughter, Valerie Powell. He also leaves behind his mother Karen Fleming (Ed Fleming); his brother Joe Powell (Len Powell) and his three nephews, Josh, Jeff and Jason, all of Jacksonville, FL. He is preceded in death by his father, John Powell of Salt Springs, FL.
Jim was born on January 3, 1968 in Jacksonville, FL, to parents Karen and John Powell. Jim has worked for Steve’s Painting and Maintenance for 9 years as a painter and maintenance technician.
He married Tami Loftis in 2011 and the couple purchased a home on Jacksonville’s Westside in 2015.
Jim had a passion for music and was a huge fan of the local band Lynyrd Skynyrd. He played guitar, electric and acoustic, sang with friends throughout the years and sang with the band Lethyl in the 80’s. Most recently he had gone back into the studio with his close lifelong friends recording some of his original songs as well as some cover tunes. He was extremely proud of this and was excited to share the finished product with family and friends. Jim will be truly missed by all that knew him.
Rock on!
