James (Jim) Harold Mathis, 81, passed away on May 8, 2013. Jim was born in Bayard, Florida to parents John and Blanche Mathis. He moved to Jacksonville Beach, Florida after his marriage to longtime beach resident, Cookie with whom he shared 52 wonderful years. He is survived by his wife and his children; Linda (Jeff), Debra (Richard-D), and Donna (Alan), his grandchildren, Jon, Shawn, Justin, Jason, Christopher, Stacey, Kelly and David, and great grandson Ethan. Jim proudly served in the Air Force and later, worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. until his retirement. He enjoyed going to air shows and was a skilled carpenter. He also enjoyed outings to McDonalds for morning coffee with friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:30am, Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Hardge-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd N., Jacksonville. Interment will follow in Chapel Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
