James “Jim” Oliver Massey, Sr., 89 of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully on August 2, 2023. Jim was born in Bowman, Georgia on August 4, 1933, to the late William Henry and Gertrude Oliver Massey.
After graduating from Bowman High School, Jim joined the Navy in 1951. He served on the USS Borie (DD704) during the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged in 1959. Jim attended Southern Technical Institute where he graduated with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Reynolds, Smith, and Hills where he designed, installed, started up and maintained power plants.
Jim enjoyed hunting, rebuilding and working on cars, and traveling with his wife. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents; by his loving wife, Helen Huff Massey; daughter, Zoe Ann Massey Stalvey; and his siblings, William Frank Massey and Annie Sue Massey, He is survived by his siblings Jeanette Massey Walker (Buford), Shuler Wayne Massey (Cheryl), Billy Edwin Massey (Sandra), and Rebecca Massey Saylors; his children, James Oliver Massey, Jr. (Kathy), and Selina Massey Poole; his grandchildren William Christopher West, April Michelle West, Zoe Anne Carter (Clay), and Masey Joan Poole; his great- grandchildren, Chloe Elizabeth Emelander, Asher James Robert Stanley, and James Cash Carter; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held August 19, 2023 at 10:00 am followed a Memorial Service at 11:00 am at Parkwood Baptist Church (7900 Lonestar Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32211).
