The late James Lucious Boyd Jr. also known as (aka) Loonie and JB was born on January 30, 1951, in Pompano Beach, FL to James Lucious Boyd Sr. and Wadrine Boyd. He attended the public schools of Broward County and after graduating from Blanche Ely High School, he joined the United States Navy. James received his Associates Degree in General Studies from Florida State College of Jacksonville.
While serving in the United States Navy, James was deployed to several countries and served on various Navy Carriers overseas where he worked in the capacity of an AQ - Aviation Fire Control Technician. He later answered the call of duty to serve in Jacksonville, FL, where he planted his roots and began to call it his home. During his time of serving in the Jacksonville area he met the love of his life Wanda Gail Wilson and was married within two years. They celebrated 39 years of marriage on September 9, 2013. After serving our country for twenty years he retired as a First Class Petty Officer.
James volunteered at Hyde Grove Elementary School, Chets Creek Elementary School (fifteen plus years), Landon Middle School, Lavilla Performing Arts School; Douglas Anderson Performing Arts High School, and Dansations Performing Arts Center. He was known to be organized, committed, reliable, a role model, and funny. That was JB. James was amazingly talented. He has left his mark in many places and most of all, in the lives of many people.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Gary B. Boyd Sr. He leaves to celebrate his life, a loving and devoted wife Wanda Gail Boyd, his two children, Kimberly Gail Boyd and James Lucious Boyd III; two grandchildren Samiya N. Weaver and Micah C. Tensley; Mother, Wadrine Boyd of Pompano Beach, FL; five sisters all of whom reside in Florida - Barbara J. Roberson (Robert) of Tamarac, Delois A. Wilson (Marvin) of Margate, Veronica P. Boyd of Pompano Beach, Cynthia A. Lee of West Palm Beach, and Quanya P. Harris (Charles) of Tallahassee. Two brothers, Victor L. Boyd of Pompano Beach, FL and Zachary C. Boyd (Pamela) of Virginia Beach, VA; a multitude of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and two special friends – James and Gola (KK) Cherney.
