He was born on December 27,1941 to Mary and Oliver Barry in Jacksonville, Florida.
He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Eleanor Brantley, Kay Bass and Grandson Bradley Clark.
James proudly served in the United States Navy, spent two tours in Vietnam.
After returning to Jacksonville, he entered the workforce in the Warehouse Industries and Trailer Leasing Business.
He also owned and operated Barry’s Vending for several years.
James was a graduate of FCCJ (known today as FSCJ), also held a business degree from Jones College.
He was former president of the Jacksonville Traffic Club.
He cherished his family, friends and football. James formed the “R.O.M.E.O “Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out) where he met with his “football buddies” every Thursday.
James was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Many knew him as “Pops”. He dearly loved his family; Beverly Barry, Sheri (Larry) Hatten, Jody (Nicole) Barry, Courtney (Timothy) Henderson, Krista (Mathew) Lumley, and only Great-Granddaughter and love of his life, Ariana Henderson.
A visitation for James will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hendrix Ave Baptist Church, 4001 Hendricks Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
A funeral service will occur Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hendrix Avenue Baptist Church, 4001 Hendricks Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
A committal service will occur Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
