

Jack moved to Jacksonville as a young adult, where he met his wife of 64 years, Reta. The couple also lived in Keystone Heights, Florida, for many years and served as founding members of Keystone Heights United Methodist Church. In addition to supporting and advising the church formation and construction, Jack was active in the Methodist men’s groups. Outside of his 33-year career with Southern Bell, Jack enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and was a skilled craftsman; he was a true Jack-of-all-trades. In retirement, he and Reta enjoyed traveling in their motorhome. Later in life, they moved to Waynesville, North Carolina.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Reta; five brothers Joseph Amos McSwain, Jr., Leonard McSwain, Horace McSwain, Ray McSwain, and Colon McSwain; five sisters Viola Plante, Dora Watkins, Barbara Cox, Annie Laura Lyles, Clara Lee Speake; and parents Joseph Amos and Leaka Watola McSwain. He is survived by two sons, Jack McSwain, Jr. (Deborah) and Michael McSwain of Green Cove Springs, Florida; two granddaughters, Donna Barrow (William) and Suzanne Tomlinson (Chris) of Orange Park, Florida; and two great-granddaughters, Rhiannon Barrow and Brooke Tomlinson.
A visitation will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 2:00 PM at Edgewood Cemetery, 4519 Edgewood Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32219. Pastor Richard Carney will serve as officiant of services.
