

Jack C. Hartje died at his home, in Ponte Vedra, Florida on March 22, 2024 at the age of 82. He lived a long and full life loving music, flying, biking and everything water related. He began boating and surfing in his early days at home in Ormand Beach, Florida racing with his friends down the Tomoka River and surfing at Daytona Beach. He continued surfing in graduate school in Hawaii, riding endless waves with his good friends from UH. He also loved sailing, kayaking, kite surfing, wind surfing and was an avid mountain biker in his 14 years in Hawaii. As a Navy veteran, Jack used his GI benefits to earn his fixed wing pilots license and taught flying while in graduate school in Hawaii. His love for music started early playing piano by ear, guitar and drums. He loved composing songs, working out to his playlists and listening to his favorite music.
Jack graduated with his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Arizona where he was also able to pursue his lifelong passion with Elvis. He met Elvis in Yankee Town Florida in 1961 while he was attending the University of Florida. He attended many Elvis shows in Las Vegas while he was at ASU and remained a lifelong Elvis fan. As a Psychologist, Jack taught Behavioral Medicine at the University of North Florida from 1973 - 1999 while running the Hartje Pain and Stress Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.
Jack is preceded in death by his first wife, Kathy Hartje, the mother of his children and is survived by his loving partner Susan Farrar, his daughter, Naomi Hartje, his son, Neil Hartje and granddaughter, Kaden Hartje. Jack touched many lives in his long life and` his career in Stress Management and will be truly missed.
