Irene “Cookie” Mathis spread joy to all who knew her through her fun-loving and competitive spirit. She loved games, puzzles, and animals, but most of all, she loved her family. She put all of herself into caring for her family and always made their comfort and well being her priority. She enjoyed spending time with her loved ones, whether playing cards, making them meals, or just having a visit. Cookie was a Bingo and crane game enthusiast and would donate her winnings to children’s charities. The world has lost some of it brillance now that Heaven has gained a shining star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mathis. Mother and father Jennie and Dominick Rielli, son in law Richard Cohee Her Aunt Estelle and Uncle Nick. She is survived by her daughters: Linda Jean and husband Jeff Pittenger; Debra Sue Cohee, Donna Marie and husband Alan White. Her grandchildren: Jon and Justin Pittenger, Jason Cohee, Shawn and Christopher Walker, David White, Kelly Serre, Stacey Whittington. Great grandson Ethan Townsend.Two brothers, Dominick and Louis Rielli and sister Patricia Bingham as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation for Irene will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 12:00 PM, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225, followed immediately by a committal service at Chapel Hills Memory Gardens, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225.
