Hubert Mignott was born on May 3rd, 1929, in Beecher Town St. Ann, Jamaica West Indies. He attended Beecher Town Primary School and after graduating, decided to learn masonry as an apprentice and later made this his life’s vocation and means of supporting his family beginning with his mother, Celestina Gray (deceased) and after he got married to Edris Housen and started their family. During Hubert residency in Jamaica, he worked on renovating two churches in the community, Beecher Town Church of Christ, and the Methodist church. Additionally, he served as one of the major builders on numerous homes in Beecher Town, surrounding communities and in various parishes in Jamaica. He also trained others in the trade field and mentored them.
Hubert was a family-oriented man. He married his wife, Edris as a young adult and the union was blessed with six children: five sons: Willoughby, Dennis, Owen, Derven, Jamaal and one daughter, Veronica. He was a father who guided his children to make solid decisions pertaining to education, work, life, and contributing to society. Many loved Hubert. He was known especially to his family and those closest to him as a man who possessed an extraordinary amount of wisdom which was transcendent. Hubert was a prayer warrior who saw the need to pray for others and did it thoughtfully and whole heartedly, trusting only on his faith in the heavenly father.
In 1969 Hubert migrated to the United States to join his wife, Edris who received the opportunity to work in the States earlier while he remained in Jamaica to care for their younger children with the aid of his mother, Celestina while he continued to work to support them and two of his older children who were away in college. Hubert saw making the changes to relocate to the United States as an opening for creating more opportunities for his family and his vision was successful.
Hubert worked as a Cement Mason for numerous construction companies in Boston, MA and became an active member of the local 534 Boston Cement Mason Union and remained connected to the Hubert was also a servant of the Lord. He accepted the Lord as a young adult in Jamaica and began his spiritual journey as a Christian and remained faithful to the end of his time in this life. The Lord blessed him and used him as an inspiration to his family, friends, and others while he served as Deacon, and later Chairman of the Deacon Board in Boston, Massachusetts and after relocating, in Jacksonville, Florida. Hubert also volunteered at Wiley Senior Center and served there until it was no longer possible for him to continue to teach bible studies and counsel others due to decline in his health with Dementia that advanced.
Hubert leaves to mourn his loss: wife and partner in Christ, Edris, his children, grandchildren, several great grand children, nieces, and nephews, as well as a host of other family members.
We will miss you dearly Pops. In our hearts you will always be with us.
Love always from your wife and children.
