
Henry William “Hank” Stearns passed away July 12, 2012 due to multiple myeloma. Hank was a born in Albany, Ky., on July 24, 1929, son of Marvin and Flossie Stearns. He was predeceased by his stepmother Myrtle Stearns.
Hank graduated from New Castle, Indiana High School in 1946 and then enlisted in the Navy. He served two tours of duty in Korea and was aboard a destroyer during the Inchon Invasion. After he completed his service he received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management at Ball State University.
IN 1956 Hank moved to Indianapolis and began his career with the Anning-Johnson Company, a national contracting and engineering company. Hank was secretary on the Board of Directors of the Construction Specification Institute, chairman of the Building Managers and Owners Association, president of the Producer’s Council, and an active member of the Building Contractors Association and the Construction League of Indianapolis.
In 1973 Hank was transferred to New Orleans as District Manager, where he lived for 16 years. He retired in 1995 after 30 years as Vice President. After retirement Hank moved to Jacksonville, Fl. Hank and Mary Ann enjoyed ten years traveling the world. After 16 years they moved to St. Augustine, Fl. His hobbies and interest were golfing with his buddies, all sports, genealogy, and country music. He leaves to mourn, his wife Mary Ann, son Craig and granpa to Drew; his former wife Barbara Walls and children Rod, Jennie and Scott (wife Shona), granpa to Adam (wife Tyler), Alex, Ben, Erin (Matthew), Jamey, Marc, Mollie, and great granpa to Audrina, Brooklynne, Corbin, and Ryland. He was the consummate husband, father, granpa, and great granpa. Funeral services will be private with entombment at Oaklawn Cemetery. A family friend, Dr. Neil Phelps will officiate. Please, no flowers. A memorial in Hank’s name may be made to Wounded Warriors, 4899 Belfort Rd., Suite #300, Jacksonville, FL 32256 or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
