Helen C Merkel

Helen Elizabeth Clem Merkel, 90, passed away February 17, 2013 in her home on what would have been her 70th wedding anniversary to the love of her life, Jimmy. She was born in LaGrange, Georgia on December 29, 1922, to Robert and Mellie Clem. She graduated a year early from high school and excelled in business school. This prepared her for her many positions within the federal government and private companies. She was a faithful and active member of Assumption Church, St. Gerard s Circle, Catholic Women s Club, and Saint Catherine Nursing Home Auxiliary. Mrs. Merkel was the ultimate people person , always on the phone, writing letters, meeting with friends and relatives to celebrate life. She was everyone s sister, mother and friend. She was the ultimate Southern lady. Mrs. Merkel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jimmy, her parents, siblings, and her dear friend, Fran. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Paul (Larry); son, James Phillip Merkel (Paula); grandson, Jeremiah Cheyenne Merkel-Goulett (Marisol) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. The family wants to express love and thanks to her caregiver, Amy McGinnis, and her family who gave many months of loving care to her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday February 22, 2013 in Assumption Catholic Church, 2403 Atlantic Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm on Thursday at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 4300 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville Florida 32207. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Merkel s name to Assumption Catholic Church.
