Helen “Ruth” Shelby McCall, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, friend, and colleague passed away February 22 peacefully at home in Jacksonville, FL of natural causes.
Achievements in life were bachelor’s degree from NOVA, Master’s degree from University of Alabama
Upon moving to Jacksonville, FL in 1970 employed by Duval County Schools for 27 years began as a Reading Resource teacher at RL Brown Elementary then promoted to Assistant Principal and later promoted to Principalship at Arlington Elementary and transferred to Stonewall Jackson Elementary where she retired in 1997.
She is predeceased in death by her older sister Katheryn & husband Walter E Plott, sister JoAnn Gillam’s husband Bobby Gillam, husband George F McCall, JR, daughter Patricia Ann, stepson John A, step-daughter Mary, father and mother.
Survived by sisters JoAnn Gillam & Nina Brooks, brother Marcus Eugene Shelby, daughters Lurline, Debra, son Fredrick, stepson George F III, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
Was an active member of Phi Delta Kappa, Eastern Star, and at Lakewood Presbyterian Church.
Charities she contributed to were Shriners Hospital, Tunnel to Towers, Wounded Warrior
Family was her greatest love and joy and was committed to caring for her family till death. For all who knew her and met her, saw she was a great lady who was loving and caring.
