Helen A. Kartsonis, 86, of Tequesta, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2014. Loving and adoring mother, sister, yiayia, nouna, aunt, and friend, she will be forever greatly missed by all of the many lives she touched and influenced. She is predeceased by her devoted husband of 43 years, Dr. Apostolos A. Kartsonis of Jacksonville, Florida.
Born in Tarpon Springs on October 6, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Captain John E. Tsavaris and Sevasti Hagimanolis Tsavaris. After graduating from Tarpon Springs High School, she attended Katherine Gibbs School in Boston, Massachusetts. While in Boston, she met and fell in love with Dr. Apostolos A. Kartsonis, of Leontarion, Greece. They were married in Tarpon Springs, Florida on December 30, 1951, and moved to Jacksonville shortly thereafter. She raised her family there and continued to live in Jacksonville until 2013, and maintained a second home in Tequesta, Florida, since 1998.
She was a warm and loving woman, who loved her family above all else. Left to cherish the memory of this uniquely wonderful woman are her four children, Dr. Athan (Joyce) Kartsonis, Indialantic, Florida, Mary Pia (John) Kastrenakes, Tequesta, Florida, Dr. John (Holly) Kartsonis, Jacksonville, Florida, Arlene Geisendorff, Jacksonville, Florida, eleven grandchildren, one great grandchild, her sisters, Mrs. Mary Tsangaris, Potomac, Maryland, and Mrs. Barbara Karvounis, Athens, Greece, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation for family and friends at Saint John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church 3850 Atlantic Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida, on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 5:00 PM, followed by a Trisiagion Service at 6:30. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Saint John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home. May her memory be eternal.
