Harris James Faulk Sr., 93, a loving Husband, Father, & Grandfather , died, Tuesday, February 4, 2015 peacefully at his home with his wife Sue of 35 years at his side. He as born in Vidalia Georgia on October 2, 1921 to Ellis Custer Faulk and Katie Hankinson Faulk. In his early years, he attended Waycross, Georgia school system. He was always a hard worker starting at the age of fifteen. He succeeded in life working many different avenues of opportunities that included collection agent, beer distributor, ice cream sales, jewelry sales, and inducted into the United States Army in February 1943. Fort Campbell, Kentucky was his first military base and next was Fort Ord, California. Deployment to the Pacific Theater of WWII came in July 1944. As Corporal in the 96th Infantry division, he fought in the invasions of Leyte Island, the Philippines and Okinawa. He received an honorable discharge in January 1946. He also received many medals of Honor for his bravery. After WWII in Jacksonville, Florida, he purchased and managed a sundry store in the Grand Park area. He first got into the automobile industry working for Murray Motor Company on West State Street. He and his brother Curtis, in February 1949, purchased the Popular Point Gas Station at Herschel Street and Saint Johns Avenue. He eventually opened Springfield Motors on 10th and Main Street in the early fifties. He later became involved in the Jacksonville Auto Auction giving small businessmen a place to buy and sell used vehicles. In June 1956, he served as secretary and treasurer of the Jacksonville Independent Automobile Dealers Association. He was also a member of the Florida State Association and National Association. He became a manager and buyer of used car inventory for Nimnicht Chevrolet in November 1966. He retired from Nimnicht in March 1982. Harris dabbled in many different businesses during his lifetime including The Pig BBQ. Harris was a long time member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lakeshore Lodge #2020, the American Legion Post #316, the Albert J. Russell Lodge # 126, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and the Morocco Temple. He elected to join the Shrine Transportation Unit in which he served as president. Harris could always be recognized driving the Potentate and Dignitaries in his “Shiny Lime Green“ 1971 Ford LTD convertible. He enjoyed working and raising funds for the Shriners Hospitals for Children participating in parades, circuses and other fun activities. Harris enjoyed camping and traveling in his motor home, watching Nascar Racing and football, big band music and dancing; but most of all, having fun with his large family. He had a passion for his dogs Daisy, Ginger, and his newest love Miss Muffet! He carried to the end his fun, teasing humor and always loved a good laugh! He is survived by loving wife, Virginia Sue Faulk; his son, Harris J Faulk Jr.; daughters, Rett Gross, Julie Bova, and Sandi Romeu; stepson David Harden; thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was deeply loved by family members and friends. Harris was preceded in death by his parents, his four brothers; Louie, Curtis, Jack, and Pat Faulk, and three sisters; Eudell Wiggins, Jean Brooks, and Katie Barrs. A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2015 from 1:00-2:00pm at Town & Country Funeral Home. Funeral services to follow at 3:00pm with interment at Riverside Memorial Park.
