Glenn was born in Newark, New Jersey, to parents William and Margaret (Starrs) Gross and was the oldest of six. He was raised in Hazlet, New Jersey, and attended Raritan High School. He majored in Business Administration and Marketing at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, North Carolina, and graduated from Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, with a degree in Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Supportive Services. He was gifted at soccer and played on both of his college teams.
Glenn and Jamie were married in New Jersey in 1983 and shortly after moved to Jacksonville, Florida, which they have called home for more than 30 years. It is here where they raised their three children and built a wonderful family-centered life. Glenn’s children remember him as a fun, loving, and dependable father who instilled in them a strong Catholic faith. Nothing on earth brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren. He was a proud grandfather that spent countless hours making them laugh, celebrating their milestones, and rocking them to sleep.
In his professional career, Glenn was not only well respected but beloved for his warm and engaging personality. He was passionate about soccer and continued to play competitively throughout his life.
Most importantly, Glenn was a devout servant of Christ. He started every day by waking up and reading the Bible and attended daily mass. He was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for 33 years where he dedicated his time to Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) as a Co-formation Leader, served on the Continuation Committee, and helped organize weekend retreats. Many friends and family looked up to Glenn and were witnesses to his unwavering faith in the Lord.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Jamie, his three children, Lauren (Jason) Parker, Matthew Gross (Laura), and Robert Gross, and five grandchildren, Ella (9), Lucas (7), Juliette (6), Violet (3), and Chloe (8 months). He is also survived by his siblings Kathy Ann Gross, Gregg Gross (Debbie), Margie (Gross) Rhodes, William Gross (Rose), and Gary Gross (Jeanne), and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 3-7pm on July 27, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with a Rosary Devotion at 6:00pm. A funeral mass will be held at 10am July 28, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church followed by a burial service at St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Glenn’s name to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, New York 10306 or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 11730 Old St. Augustine Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32258.
