Gerald William Greenspoon

GERALD “JERRY” WILLIAM GREENSPOON, former grocer and retailer. Loyal husband to the late Judith Joel Greenspoon, and proud father of Rabbi David (Anne) Greenspoon of Leesburg, VA; Marcy (Alan) Trost of Gaithersburg, MD; Lisa (Robert) Baird of Richmond, VA; and Robert Greenspoon (Jennifer Yorke) of Chicago, IL. Dear brother to the late Jean Alexander, and extremely proud Grandad to his “fantastic” grandchildren Miles and Micah Greenspoon, Cameron and Rachel Baird, and Ezra and Avi Trost. Jerry was a native of Richmond, VA. After graduating Pierre S. duPont High School in Wilmington, DE, Jerry was a member the University of Delaware Class of 1959 where he became a brother of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. Jerry was also a proud veteran of the United States Navy, with officer service from 1959-1963, serving his tour as the “traffic officer” for CARDIV 6 staff, with multiple deployments including the coast of Cuba during the 1962 Cuban Missile Blockade. Later, Jerry’s civic service included devoting scant spare fee time as a precinct captain for the Democratic Party for a precinct in Southside and then and as an elected Committeeman for Precinct 04M for decades. Jerry maintained a lifelong interest in world affairs, national and local politics and expressed his veteran’s commitments as a proud member and quartermaster of the former Jewish War Veterans Lt. Meyer Leibovitz Post 199.

Graveside services held at the Jacksonville Jewish Center Memorial Park, (the New Center Cemetery) 200 E. 43rd St. (at Liberty St.), Jacksonville, FL on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the General Scholarship Fund of the Martin J. Gotleib Day School, 3662 Crown Point Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32257 or to a beneficiary of choice.
