George Glenn Smith

George Glenn Smith, 85, died peacefully on 12/3/2023. George was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on January 15, 1938. He graduated from Birmingham Southern College in 1960, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. He started his career in the insurance business in Hartford, CT, and went on to open his own agency in Jacksonville, FL, where he worked until his retirement. George was a member of Lakewood Presbyterian Church for 56 years, where he served many terms as an Elder.

From humble beginnings, George lived a rich and productive life devoted to his faith, to his family, and to his many lifelong friendships. He was an avid boater, fisherman, golfer, and sports fan, basketball being a particular favorite. He had a servant's heart and was quick to generously assist all who crossed his path in need.

George was predeceased by his son, Charles Glenn Smith. George is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Anne Smith, and his daughter, Dane Holman (husband Jim); grandson, Clayton Holman (wife Sydney); granddaughter, Haley Burroughs (husband Myles); and great grandchildren Ellison Holman, Keese Holman, and George Burroughs.

A funeral service for George will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 at 11:30 AM at Lakewood Presbyterian Church, 2001 University Blvd. W., Jacksonville, FL 32217. Following the funeral service will be a committal service at Mandarin Cemetery, Mandarin Road, Jacksonville, FL 32223.
