George E. Deane of St. Augustine, Florida passed away on August 9th, 2018. The son of the late George P. and Nellie (Shaw) Deane, he was born in Brockton, Massachusetts, and attended secondary school in Middleboro, Massachusetts. He graduated Cum Laude from Brown University, where he was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society and the Society of Sigma Xi.
After receiving his MS degree from the University of Connecticut he served in the US Army where he was assigned to the Human Research Unit of the Continental Army Command at Fort Ord, California. Upon being discharged from the Army, he returned to the University of Connecticut where he received his PhD in Experimental Psychology.
The major portion of his professional career was spent at the State University of New York where he was a Professor of Psychology and also served as Chairman of the Department and Director of Graduate Studies. His research was supported in part by grants from the National Institutes of Mental Health and was published in a number of Journals including the Journal of Experimental Psychology, Psychophysiology, and Physiology and Behavior. He was a member of a number of professional organizations including the American Psychological Association, the American Association of University Professors, the Society for Psychophysiological Research, and Sigma Xi.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris, daughter of the late Perry and Isabel Eaton of Wollaston, Massachusetts; daughter, Donna of Jacksonville, Florida; sons, Douglas of Charlotte, North Carolina, and David (Elizabeth) of Boise, Idaho; grandson, Jason; and great-grandsons, Elijah, Ian, Kaden, & Rowan.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, August 12 in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. The Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, August 13 in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, followed by entombment at Oaklawn Cemetery 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207
