It is with great sadness, and celebration, that we announce the passing of our father George William Cauley, who was known to most as Bill. Our hearts are broken that he will no longer be here with us on earth, but we celebrate the promise of eternal life, as we know he is at the feet of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He was a faithful and devoted Christian husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, who entered the presence of the Lord on September 17, 2024, at the age of 95. Prayers were answered as he passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 28, 1928, in Alma, Georgia. Bill lived most of his life in Jacksonville, Florida where he met the love of his life, Dot (Price) Cauley. They were married 62 years before she passed away in 2012 from a long battle with dementia. His loving care of her made a lasting impression on all that witnessed his faithful example of how to love in sickness and in health. He was truly living out how Jesus gave up His life for the church when he cared for her all those years.
During their life together they built a strong and faith-filled home. As a father, Bill was a guiding light for his children, Debbie, Martha and Lee, instilling in them the values of integrity, compassion and unwavering faith in God. A man of strong Christian values, he lived a life of love, kindness and service, always putting others before himself and exemplifying the teachings of Christ in every aspect of his life.
He was charter member of Terry Parker Baptist Church where he faithfully served since 1957. His contributions to the church and community were numerous, from leading Bible studies to participating in outreach programs. Bill was known for his generosity, wisdom and unwavering trust in God’s plan. Outside of his church and family life, Bill retired from Southern Bell, with 38 years of service to the company and served on the 121 Financial Credit Union Board for 52 years, often using his talents to bless others.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife Dot Cauley, son George William Cauley, Jr., grandson Jeffery Lee Greer, parents Alec and Nellie Cauley, and three brothers Donald, Jerry and Dwight Cauley.
Bill is survived by brother Fred Cauley, three daughters Debbie (Jeff) Greer, Martha (Jimmy) Gladwell, Lee (Jay) Rogers. Grandchildren: Alex (Kristian) Greer, Melissa (Reid) Duff, Billy Greer, Donald Greer, Jimbo (Torie) Gladwell, Raymond (Meagan) Gladwell, Nellie (Chetley) Breeden, Bryson (Melanie) Rogers, Jay Rogers IV. Eighteen precious Great Grandchildren, a host of loved beyond measure Nieces and Nephews, and countless friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we take comfort in knowing that this faithful and humble man is now with his Savior, rejoicing in heaven. A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held at Terry Parker Baptist Church, 7024 Merrill Road, Jacksonville, FL 32277 on November 30, 2024, at 12:00 pm. Visitation will be 11:30 am. Bill loved the family to gather every year for a Family Reunion, so in honor of that after his service please all join in a Covered Dish Lunch in the Church Fellowship Hall. The family will provide the meat, if you will each bring a covered dish or dessert for us all to enjoy together as we celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Terry Parker Baptist Church in his memory. https://tpbc.org/giving/
