GEORGE EDWIN BAY
1926 - 2019
Born March 1, 1926, George Edwin Bay entered this world in Jacksonville, Florida, as a blond haired, blue eyed baby boy. George died September 17, 2019, in Orange Park, Florida. George was raised by his grandparents, Ralph Emmit Bay, and Louise Anna Mae Colbert Bay. His sisters, Elizabeth Lloyd Morris and Anna Mae Lloyd Hersey , and his brother Eddie Lloyd also lived with him along with his mother, Dorothy Elizabeth Bay. Eddie now lives in Tampa with his wife Lucille.
George served as a Merchant Marine and in the Navy during World War II. George worked at the Naval Air Station and joined the Marietta Volunteer Fire Department, for whom he worked for many years. He also worked at Peavy Brothers Electric Company and later George worked with Civil Defense for the City of Jacksonville. He also worked with motor pool and rose to the rank of foreman, handling all of the fuel and lubricants for the city of Jacksonville equipment.
He was married in 1945 to Frances Ella Moyer. His first child was George Edwin Bay, Jr, born on May 20, 1946 - died November 17, 2012, and Connie Bay Gregory was born September 23, 1948. George and his family lived in Jacksonville, Florida.
In 1969 George married Jean Mizelle, whom he met while working with the City of Jacksonville. They were married until Jean died from complications of cancer on March 1, 2004. Jean is survived by her daughter Peggy Keith and two grandchildren.
George found the love of his life, Barbara Fitzpatric, and they lived happily for seven years. Barbara’s family essentially adopted George as their “Grandpa George.” Barbara’s children, Michael Fitzpatrick (Elaine), Kathleen Fitzgerald (Chip), Susan Foster (Paul), Kerry Wick (Marsh), and Jennifer Walton (Tom) loved George and continue to be his support family. Barbara shared her thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren with George and the family continues to grow.
George’s West Palm Family includes daughter Connie Bay Gregory (Michael Johnson), granddaughter Kimberly Stellman (Jonathan), Michael’s two sons, Grant (Megan) and Taylor (Emily) and George’s great-grandchildren, Carter, Finley and Callan. George also enjoyed the entire Gregory Family.
George’s Texas Family includes daughter-in-law, Carmen C. Bay and grandchildren, Audrey Foy (Beau), Jennifer Rios (Pete), and Laura Patton (Clint). and great-grandchildren, Zoe, Zachary, Amalie, Ellie, Emma and Sammy.
George’s Motorcycle Family includes friendships with his motorcycle club friends and members of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Chapter FL1-X, Orange Park, Florida. George was an avid rider from his teenage years and he took his last ride at the young age of 93! His best buddy, Michael Bible kept him safe and rode with George to the last ride. George considered Michael his son in spirit.
• Friday, September 27th, 2019, The family will receive friends at a catered reception to be held at 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home at 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
• Saturday, September 28th at 10:00 AM, The Celebration of Life and Funeral Ceremony will be held at the Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home at 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
• Monday, September 30th, we will meet at Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home at 7242 Normandy Boulevard at 8:30 A.M. We will leave the Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. accompanied by the Patriot Guard Riders and members of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Chapter FL1-X, Orange Park, Florida to the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218, cortege lane 3. We will arrive at the Cemetery at 9:30 A.M. where George will be honored as a WW II Veteran.
