Polly was born May 5, 1938 in Holmes County, Florida to William Thomas King and Jessie Elnora Miller King. She graduated from Ponce de Leon High School in 1955. In 1958 she married Nathan Franklin ("Frank") Hinson, Sr. of Reno, Georgia. She moved with her husband and children to Jacksonville, Florida in 1970.
Polly worked at Pinedale Elementary School in Jacksonville as an office assistant while raising her family. After retiring from the school, she worked at J.B. Coxwell Contracting, Inc. for a number of years. When her working years ended, she was able to focus more time on her family, whom she loved fiercely. She was a dedicated Christian who enjoyed sharing her faith. No amount of hardship could diminish her ability to spread kindness and compassion. Her gifted storytelling brought laughter and joy to many people. She had a creative mind and a passion for knowledge. She enjoyed her close friendships, listening to gospel music, singing, reading, traveling, walking nature trails, and watching football.
She is survived by her daughter Vicki Doll (Ralph); her son Frankie Hinson; her grandsons Jeremy Doll (Nicole) and Joshua Doll; her great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Meema", Katelynn, Elizabeth, and Jonathan Doll; one brother James E. “Eddie” King (Bula); and several extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 34 years, Frank Hinson, Sr.; and her brother, Thomas Rudolph King.
A private graveside service will be held later this month at Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo, Georgia with Reverend Chris Allen officiating.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to those staff members and residents at Fouraker Hills Rehab & Nursing Center who gave "Ms. Gencie" their love, friendship, and care.
