Gary Robert Rossington, age 71, passed away March 5, 2023 at his home in Milton, Georgia surrounded by his family. Gary was born December 4, 1951 in Jacksonville, Florida to John Robert Rossington and Margaret Berniece McGraw Rossington. He was an American musician and songwriter, and was best known as a founding member of the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, in which he played lead and rhythm guitar. On October 20, 1977, a plane transporting members of the Lynyrd Skynyrd band tragically crashed, and Gary was one of the surviving band members on the plane; he was the last living founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Gary was also a member of The Rossington Band and Rossington Collins Band.
Gary married the love of his life, Dale Krantz Rossignton in 1982. Together they shared their love of music, but most importantly, their love for their two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Rossington and Annie Kathleen Rossington Barnett. Gary was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. The legacy he leaves behind will forever be remembered in his family’s hearts, and his many fans throughout the world.
Gary leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Dale Krantz Rossington; two loving daughters, Mary Elizabeth Rossington and Annie Kathleen Rossington Barnett; one son-in-law, Thomas Barnett; three loving grandchildren Morgan Elizabeth Duckett, Jackson Rossington Duckett, and Abigail Rose Rossington Barnett; Dane Corry; sisters, Carol Coleman and Nancy Riggs; many loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws; his amazing band mates and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Gary will be held privately for the family.
