Gail Arden Fitzpatrick, 72, passed away early Friday morning, September 20th, 2019 at Baptist South Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born May 30, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, to George “Bud” Atkin Jefferies, Jr. and Rosemary (Heffernan) Jefferies. She was a graduate of Englewood High School, received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Florida, and Master’s Degrees in Nursing and Education from the University of Texas at El Paso.
Gail served in the U.S. Army for three years as a registered nurse and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain in 1972. She continued her career in nursing in both the private sector and civil service, specializing in mental health. Gail had a passion for veterans and was a member of volunteer organizations and support groups, and continued to help in any way possible, even after retiring from her professional career.
Gail is survived by her brother, George “Jeff” Jefferies, sister, Valerie (Calvin) Schulz, daughter, Kelly (Steve) Fitzpatrick-Powell, her five grandchildren, Russell Powell, Andy Fitzpatrick, Cheyenne Dupee’, Jordan Helms, and Logan Helms, and nephews and cousins.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Gail touched are invited to attend services at All Saint’s Episcopal Church, 4171 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, FL, 32207, on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 11am. All are invited to a reception immediately following the memorial.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to organizations that support veterans and/or those suffering from mental illness.
