He was a 5th generation Jacksonville native. Ray was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and the University of Florida where he was on the Honor Court and President/EA of the SAE Fraternity. During WWII, Ray served as a liaison pilot and captain of the field artillery flying 98 missions in the 34th division also known as the Red Bulls. He was awarded two air medal clusters and the Italian Medal of Courage during the war. Returning to Jacksonville, Ray joined his father in the family business, J.H. Norton Insurance Co. In 1966 he joined Merrill Lynch as an account executive until his retirement. Ray was a member of the Florida Yacht Club and Timuquana Country Club for 62 years. He served as President of Timuquana and as board member of the Florida Yacht Club. Ray was formerly a member of the University Club, River Club, Meninak and Ponte Vedra Club where his father was a founder and colonizer. Ray is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeanne Leech, his three children: Jeanne Dobbs, Dorothy McIntyre and Raymond McIntyre III and his grandchildren: Constance Ashford McIntyre, Raymond McIntyre IV and Mallory Candler Dobbs.
