Frances “Fran” Helen Stein Young, a woman of exceptional beauty, intelligence and kindness, passed away on March 23, 2023 at the age of 85 surrounded by family in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on November 10th, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York, Frances was an extraordinary woman who accomplished much in her life and enjoyed every minute of it.
Fran was a gifted student and graduated from high school at the age of 16. She went on to earn her master’s degree at age 19 from New York University, a remarkable achievement that spoke to her intelligence, strong nature and drive.
Fran caught the eye of the dashing and charming Dr. James Young, and they were married shortly thereafter. Together they had five children, two of whom predeceased her (Bobby and Debbie). Frances was a devoted mother who was known in Harrison, New York, where her children grew up, as the mom who took care of everyone. She was very social and loved to be around people. Fran loved to entertain and was happiest when her home was filled with people celebrating holidays and other special occasions.
Frances was committed to providing her children with the best education and supported them through their many extracurricular activities. She was passionate about advocating for Israel, a cause she shared with her late husband. In later years, she and James moved to Jacksonville, Florida to be near her daughter and other family and made many friends.
Frances was also a beloved member of her community at River Garden, where she was known for getting other residents together for a nightly game of Rummikub and encouraging her friends to participate in daily social events. Even in her retirement, she planned charity drives, most recently for the Ronald McDonald house, generating more than $5,000 to honor a close friend.
Frances was immensely proud of her children: Sam Young (Debbie), Rachelle Gottlieb (Jeff), Dan Young (Merry), and deeply loved her grandchildren: Isabel and Emme, Tyler and Justin, Alex, and Sydney (Kellie), Alex, and Drew.
Fran was an exceptional woman who lived a life full of love, friendship, a quick wit, intelligence and kindness. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in our unending love and appreciation for her.
Frances' funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 30th at 10am, at Greenlawn Cemetery (King David Garden), 4300 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207.
A meal of consolation will follow internment at 12:00pm at River Garden, 11401 Old St. Augustine Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32258, followed by Shiva at River Gardens later that evening at 6pm.
