Frances Mignonne Carpenter, 95, of Charlotte NC went to be with the Lord on April 8, 2019. She is the daughter of the late Hattye Townsend Flatt and Joseph McKenna Flatt. Mignonne is reunited in passing with her husband, E. Leroy Carpenter; her granddaughter Ashlyn Renee Carpenter and her brothers Donald Flatt and Dale Flatt. She is survived by her daughter Donna Cheryl Carpenter of Daytona Beach Florida; son and daughter-in-law David Keith and Donna Morris Carpenter of Charlotte; her two grandsons in Charlotte Jonathan Ellsworth and Austin Reed Carpenter.
Mignonne was born in Union City, Tennessee but resided in and around Fulton Kentucky until she graduated from High School. In 1942 she moved to Jacksonville Florida for better opportunities. After completing business courses at Haddock Business School, she got a Civil Service job at the US Naval Air Station in 1945. She retired from the Publication and Printing Office in 1981 after 37 years of excellent service.
She met Leroy Carpenter in Jacksonville and married him October 21, 1944. They raised their two children in Jacksonville. Mignonne and family were blessed to be a part of their church community at First Baptist Jacksonville since 1942.
After retirement Mignonne and Leroy volunteered weekly at St. Luke’s Hospital, now Mayo Hospital, for 24 years. Mignonne and Leroy also enjoyed retirement by traveling, visiting family and enjoying membership at First Baptist, NARFE and Club 55+. Mignonne was also an avid Word Search lover.
Mignonne moved to Charlotte NC in 2015 to live with her son and his family. Three years ago, she moved into the Senior Retreat Landsdowne, where she was loved and cared for by their staff and residents. In Charlotte, Mignonne enjoyed attending Matthews United Methodist Church and their Seasoned to Perfection group.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday April 13, 4 pm at Matthews United Memorial Church, 801 S. Trade Street, Matthews NC. A time of family visitation will follow service. A graveside service will be held on April 15, 10 am at Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville FL. A reception will follow from 11:30-1:30 pm back inside Greenlawn’s chapel.
