Mrs. Eva Alma Hampton Jackson was born, July 28, 1924 to the late James Hampton, Sr. and late Rachel Anderson Hampton. She was a native of Jacksonville, Florida. However, in honoring her adventurist spirit, various places became home for a season; Dover, Delaware, New York City, New York, Newark, New Jersey and Atlanta, GA.
She attended the Duval County Schools and graduated from Stanton High School. Furthering her education, she became a Certified Mastered Cosmetologist. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Edward Waters College and completed post graduate courses at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.
In earlier years, she was a member of Central Metropolitan C.M.E. (family church). During her life time, Mrs. Jackson was a member of the First Baptist Church, New York, New York, Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church and Christ Temple Missionary Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Florida.
Mrs. Jackson had a multifaceted life. She owned and operated a beauty salon; became a civil service employee with Internal Revenue Services and the U.S. postal service. As an instructor she trained young minds as an elementary school teacher in both the public and private sectors. She also instructed adults at Florida Community College at Jacksonville, as adult education adjunct professor and administered academic achievement tests to entering college students.
Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by three brothers, James Hampton Jr., Evers Mack Hampton, Sr. and Frank Hampton, Sr. and four sisters, Amanda H. Mabry, Victoria H. Toms, Telitha H. Habersham, Louise H. Wilson, and Rachel H. Malloy.
Mrs. Jackson leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted daughter, Phyllis Curry Goff, son-in-law, Clifford Wendell Goff, Sr.; grandsons, Clifford Wendell Goff, Jr. (Brandi), Romia Christopher Goff; great-grand-children, Jasmine Goff, Antwone Mothershead and Amauri Clifford Goff; sister-in-law, Willa Dean Hampton; devoted cousins: Lucretia H. Williams, Mildred Harvey, Joseph Avery Sr. (M.D.), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
