Esther Jo Barrs Wilson

Esther Jo Barrs Wilson passed away December 5, 2017 at Taylor Manor while in the care of Community Hospice and the kind and gentle staff of the Taylor Skilled Nursing Center. Jo, as she was called by family and friends, was born December 17, 1927 in Jacksonville, Florida to Byrd S. and Suzie Mae Foss Barrs. She remained a life-long resident of Jacksonville and graduated Lee High School, class of 1946. In 1948 she married Frank M. Wilson, her husband of 58 years. A loving wife and devoted mother, Jo had many interests and pursuits including working as the bookkeeper for the family business, volunteering in a variety of capacities at her church, Grace United Methodist, and serving on the PTA from 1958 until 1982. She also loved gardening, and received several awards for her beautiful Camellias.

Her husband, Frank, predeceased Jo, November 14, 2006. Surviving her are four children (Kelly E. Wilson, Frankie S. Wilson, S. Glenn Wilson and Roger L. Wilson); seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; as well as her cousin and life-long best friend, Shirley Kinmon Brack.

A celebration of her life will be held Friday, Dec. 22, 2017 at 11AM, at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida 32207.
