Emma Margaret Patterson, age 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 11, 2017 in Jacksonville, FL. She was born on February 8, 1923 in Murphy, NC. Her parents were Morgan Hamilton Morrow and Clara Ethel Bradshaw Morrow.
Emma grew up in the mountains of North Carolina. She always had an appreciation and pride in her mountain heritage and upbringing. Emma married Charles Preston Patterson in 1939. Emma was a strong and passionate family woman who believed in hard work and keeping her family close. The biggest and most consistent part of her life over the years was her strong Christian faith. If the church was open and she could be there, she was there. Emma loved to share what she had with people who had less. Her generous spirit will not soon be forgotten.
Emma was predeceased by Morgan and Clara Morrow (parents), Charles (Pat) Patterson (husband), Bill Patterson (son), Betty Fowler (daughter) and Mark Patterson (son).
Emma is survived by her children, Pat Bennett (Larry), Jackie Patterson (Sue), Ronnie Patterson (Pam), David Patterson (Lisa) and Calvin Patterson (Karen). She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great-grandchild.
Emma’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to their many friends, the staff at Thrive Memory Care, the staff at Apex Home Health Care and Companions, and their church families for their caring and support.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Road N. Jacksonville, FL 32225.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Road N. Jacksonville, FL 32225 with interment to follow in Chapel Hills Cemetery.
