Elaine Rudnick Herbert, 90, of Jacksonville passed away on May 8, 2016. She was born in 1926 and raised in Chicago, Illinois; she worked at the Tucker Motor Company and the High Hat, her father’s ice cream shop. At the age of twenty, Elaine married World War II veteran George B. Herbert, and was very happy to be his life-long love in their marriage of over sixty years. They had eight children born over the full range of the baby-boomer years. She wholeheartedly supported them in their education and varied endeavors, including music, sports, fishing, fashion, dance and art. She moved to Jacksonville in 1969 when her husband took a job as vice-president of Southeast Toyota Distributors. Elaine was active in Catholic women’s groups, enjoyed international travel and especially loved trying new foods. Despite having Alzheimer’s disease, she celebrated her 90th birthday at a party held a few weeks before her death. Elaine is predeceased by her husband George B. Herbert, son Gregory J. Herbert, parents John P. and Genevieve Kowalski Rudnick, brothers Gerald and John Rudnick, and her sister Genevieve Rudnick. She is survived by her brother Donald Rudnick ; her children: George D. Herbert (Sallie) of Longwood, FL; Janice Micek of Charlotte, NC; Marian Kelley (Gregory) of Tucker, GA; Gloria Herbert of Jacksonville, FL; Loretta Herbert of Jacksonville, FL; Francis, aka Frank, Herbert of Middleburg, FL; Cate Newman (Barrett) of Washington, DC ; daughter-in-law Kathy Herbert of Boca Raton, FL; grandchildren Roberta Hendry, Catherine Thomas, Lyndon Herbert, Christopher Micek, James Micek, Evan Micek, George A. Herbert, Hunter Strong, Charles Kelley, Cecilia Priday, Fergus Kelley, Lydia Kelley, Adam Stanny, Alexander Stanny, Joshua Herbert, Olivia Herbert, Keith Newman ; great grandchildren: Ash Hendry, Logan Micek, Ashlyn Micek. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 6:00-8:00pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Funeral services will take place Friday, May 13, 2016 at 9:00am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9800 Baymeadows Rd., with interment at Jacksonville National Cemetery following.
