Edward Robert Mack, Jr. “Bob”, died March 7, 2016. Bob was born in Hollywood, CA on November 7, 1928. He attended Columbia University in New York and graduated from Emerson College Boston in 1950. During the summers, Bob worked at the NYSE. Soon after graduation Bob began a long career in radio. His first jobs were at WERS, WNAC, and WEEI in the New York area. In 1951 Bob went to work as Chief Announcer for WMTR in Morristown, NJ. Bob moved to Jacksonville in 1953 after being hired as Station Manager for WSTN in St. Augustine. After a brief stint at WPDQ, Bob landed at WJAX where he spent 24 years in news broadcasting and sales. During his time at WJAX, Bob was instrumental in the development of the first financial news broadcast over local radio. Bob was a member of the Deerwood Riding and Hunt Club where he enjoyed horseback riding. Bob was an early member of Mandarin Presbyterian Church. Bob will be best known for his charm and familiar sense of humor. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Robert Mack, Sr. and Grace Dawson Mack. He is survived by his loving wife, Harriet Shore Thomas “Mickie”; son, Edward Robert Mack III; daughter, Dorothy Grace Mack; stepson, Daniel Thomas of Virginia; stepdaughter, Shelby Watts of Ohio and 5 grandchildren. Bob requested there be no formal service and asked donations be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project in lieu of flowers.
