I remember Eddie and how thoughtful he was.  In many of our discussions he would always empathize with those in precarious positions.  On this note we would try to think of ways to remedy some situations with which we were familiar.  That’s the part of him that still lingers with me as I cherish the fact that we shared the same space both physically and virtually since 1966.  To his family, even though losing a loved one is painful, please know that he was a real help to many.  God bless.

Rest well my ‘ride and die’ cousin , I’ve still not processed it, I would ask you to  meet me in Jamaica 🇯🇲 for the 80’s jazz festival and you would make it happen . Then you took me to an Oldies session at Turntable club  on one of my visits .  You loved your music . You introduced me to  street food on Red Hills Rd (roast fish stuffed with okra ). 

I remember some of the cousins going out clubbing when you came on  this side of the pond. I would dance all night knowing the next time would be 12 months when you came back. 

You showed me Around London UK 🇬🇧 , I still remember it, 1988, shopping , Wembley flea market , visiting family in Brixton, then the theatrical production ‘  Black Heroes in the Hall of Fame ‘ - we came outside to experience  the London fog, no trains running,  so we took a cab and the driver knew his way around in this thick fog.  
You loved life and lived it your way.  I remember  those daily inspirational text messages long before Facebook, I’ll look if I printed some.  Then our lives tapered off and I didn’t call you in years unless I was in  NYC. Please forgive me. 
Until we meet again , rest with the ancestors.

Reflection & Thanks

First and foremost , Thanks to Our Almighty God for giving us Edward (fondly know as  Eddie. Thanks to the family for sharing your beloved husband , dad , son , brother , uncle , nephew and cousin with us . Thanks for the life of this magnificent, awe inspiring , brilliant , opinionated , caring man , Edward . 
Every person who crosses our path is important on his  or her own way, we all are Divine Appointed with a purpose.
They are here for a REASON; or a SEASON or a LIFETIME.  Edward was present , a gift , a man for all  3 stages of friendship .
RESON: Edward provided guidance, encouragement & growth.  I was raised in a strict , sheltered & Christian environment.  Outside my family I trusted no one. Edward was instrumental in helping me open up , let my guards down and allow people in my life . For 10 years no one knew where I was or had my contact , I shut everyone out . Edward called me out on my selfish behavior . 
SEASON:  Edward gave me advised on not to compromised my standard, value and worth for any undeserving man. I was a serial dater . I had a lot of codependency issues growing up . Edward was helpful to coach me through finding my North Star .. loving and believing in my self . 
Lifetime ; all these lessons teaches you lifetime coping skills . 
In my reflection I cannot hold back the tears . They are tears of thanksgiving and gratefulness to God for His Favor , Mercy n Blessings for such a person as Edward impacting my formative years . I am sadden that such a bright light has gone out in this world . I will miss those unexpected text on medical issues . I miss my best friend . He will forever be alive in the fabric of those life lessons so richly display  in my character. Thanks dear friend ! Rest In Peace !

A Tribute  to my  Mentor Sir Edward G Hamilton

Gratitude/ Respect / Admiration
Background : my parents lived in England . I stayed w my cousin during prep school n high school years . My cousin was a tenant in Edward’s  Aunt ‘ and Uncle ‘s home . 
I love to read . There was a time I was struggling with geometry and  Edward  told me to transfer my passion for reading novels to reading geometry . I listened and I excelled in Maths . Edward was a disciplinarian , he treated me with respect and grace . I was like his little sister 
Some of my fondest memories : the guys playing soccer on the street & all that noise is now call trash talking .
Edward migrated to England and he never had any idea the impact he had on my education . 
Fast forward to 10 yrs later I was in London and one of my cousin who was a good friend of Edward surprised me by showing up w  Edward at my parents home . Edward was attending University.
My grand aunt was battling colon cancer and according to my cousin , Edward prepared fish tea (strained) every week or two .
He traveled across London to deliver the fish tea until she passed during one of his delivery . He was sadden but my grand aunt’s passing because they were good buddies .
Fast forward to 10 yrs later Edward now residing in the states .  My cousin , his friend Claudette past away and he wrote a poem that I read at her funeral . 
Edward called me up and told me he met the woman of his dreams .. Edward was a private  person and to share this information was priceless. I knew Jacque had to be special . 
I am grateful to God that God placed a mentor such as Eddie in my life that help fashioned me to the woman that I have become .  
Edward was so proud of my accomplishments. I have my doctoral degree as a pharmacist . He call me Oprah  because of my tenacity to hard work . Edward and I would battle

I had shared a memory of Eddie earlier portraying what I would call his 'serious side' - There I highlighted his literary skills in the numerous poems he wrote, and his ability to argue passionately supporting his sometimes controversial views - but he had a jocular side too.

Eddy was witty and always quick to find humor in any situation. One of his memorable pranks  at Glenmuir High School, involved a Music Teacher who was nicknamed ‘Engine’ by the students.  On one occasion this Teacher  fell asleep at the teacher’s table. As he gently snored away, Eddie walked up to the chalkboard located behind the table, and started to draw a sleeping-snoring caricature labelling it “Mr. Engine is a sleepy fellow”. Our laughter woke him up but he had no idea why we were all cracking up as Eddie quickly erased his Artwork and returned to his seat with that characteristic mischievous look on his face.

‘Mr. Engine’ had taught us an English Folk song - ‘There is a Tavern in the Town’ – and Eddie would change up the words when we sang it. In trying to recall the lyrics I looked it up and discovered it was also called ‘The Drunkard's Song’.  I laughed at the memory of us as 11-12 years-old kids singing this in school. 

The chorus however caught my attention and echoes what I believe Eddie would say/sing to us at this time. So fellow classmates of GHS, please join in with raised glasses containing your choice of beverage:

‘Fare thee well for I must leave thee, do not let this parting grieve thee, 
And remember that the best of friends must part, must part.
Adieu, adieu, adieu kind friends, adieu.
I can no longer stay with you, stay with you.
I’ll hang my harp on a weeping willow tree

I have known you for a very short time but I think I have known you enough to know that you were a very kind and loving person you were my friend Claudett  brother she always talk about you  kindly you have always shown her much love always pointing her to the right direction and encouraging her my deepest condolences to the family   You will be sadly miss  may your soul RIP in eternal peace 

I have known Eddie for almost 55 years. We were classmates at Glenmuir High School 1966-1971, and have kept in touch over the years. One effective way we did this was through the poems he wrote. He shared many of them with a few of us.

Eddie and I had discussions in 2020 about him getting the poems published, and I encouraged him to do so as they are all very good. They cover issues ranging from Nature; to Slavery, Racism, and Social Justice; to Personal Relationships in Life and in Death, including tributes to family and friends.

I consider Eddie to be a ‘Deep Thinker’. He had this thirst for knowledge – wanted to get an understanding of everything, challenged many norms and argued passionately in support of his views.

I visited Eddie in Jacksonville in Dec 2019 and it was a thrill for both of us to reflect on the good old days. 

Rest in peace my friend, I’ll cherish those memories.

My condolences to the family. I have known Eddie since 1967. We we schoolmates at Glenmuir HS.  Shared many good memories of our time at Glenmuir and in Jamaica.
A very jovial and comical person.  Always ready

There are so many things I wish I had said and done but sadly can no longer do now that you are gone.
But I want you to know that though you're out of sight, you'll always be in my heart.
I want you to know that I'll always cherish you. I'll always love you and always remember you.
You are too precious to be forgotten and too priceless to be replaced.
You were one in a million and you'll always be the precious and unique Dad I cared for so dearly.

That's part of the closing lines of a popular radio personality in Jamaica, back in the day.  Eddie and I discussed this and more, the last time that we spoke.  You see, he loved anything using words.  He lived w o r d s.
We shared the same class at Glenmuir High School for five years, and I know that every one of our classmates will attest to this: he was class.  We are already missing Eddie and are praying for his family.
 I now borrow some words from the song Meet Me There:
"By the river sparkling bright in the city of delight, where our faith is lost in sight, meet me there."  We will meet you there, my brother.

Jackie  words cannot express how sad and sorry I am to lean the passing of your husband Edward .

Edward was like  family to me and my cousins. He was my teacher; my mentor ; my counselor and just a big brother to me. 
He taught me how o love mathematics . We shared the love of poetry . I an elocutionist and he a writer and a poet.   He will be missed tremendously!
