Edward “Ed” W. Godfrey, 79, passed away on December 10, 2010. Born on February 21, 1931 in Salisbury, MD and moved to Jacksonville in 1951. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of squadron VP 16, and served during the Korean Conflict.
Ed retired as Financial Vice President from Lamb’s Yacht Center. His community involvements include, President of the Arlington Little League and Treasurer of the Arlington Football Association. He graduated from Wicomico High School, attended the University of Florida, and graduated from Jacksonville University.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, great sense of humor, and as an avid sports fan of the Florida Gators, Atlanta Braves, JU Basketball and Jacksonville Jaguars. Family brought him his greatest joy, especially attending his grandsons’ sporting events.
Ed leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Allie Jean Tompkins Godfrey; son, James Edward Godfrey and his wife, Izumi; daughter, Pamela Jean Godfrey Kibler and her husband Richard; brother, Morris “Burr” Dykes, sisters, Sandi Dykes Kennedy, Lois Dykes; and two grandsons, Brian Reese Kibler and Scott Richard Kibler. He is predeceased by his brother, Roland Godfrey, mother Naomi Dykes and father Welton Godfrey.
Visitation will be held from 6pm-8pm on Monday, December 13th at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home.
A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 14th at Oaklawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ed’s name to Northeast Florida Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Rd. Jacksonville, FL.
