He was born at St. Vincent’s Hospital April 22, 1948 to I. D. and Charlotte Castleberry. He attended elementary, junior high and High school on the Westside. He graduated from Nathan Bedford Forrest Senior High School class of 1967. Doug joined the Navy in 1968 serving on the Forrestal. After leaving the Navy he held several jobs and then went through the Operating Engineers Local 673 Apprentice Program to become a Crane Operator. He later went to Crowley Maritime as a Crane Operator serving 25 years retiring in 2009. During this time, he was a member of Teamsters Local 512 Union. Doug was a 25-year member of the American Legion Post 137. March 2010 joined the Loyal Order of Moose-Lakeshore Lodge 2020. This was his passion. He jumped right in as Outer Guard working his way up to become the Governor in 2014. He also was District 14 President and Seminole 81 President. He held the Moose Legion and Fellow Degree and received his call card for the highest degree, The Pilgrim Degree of Merit Class of 2023. Unfortunately, due to his ALS he couldn’t travel and attend the conferral on June 3, 2023. Doug also during his retirement volunteered his time as a Docent and Volunteer at Camp Blanding World War II Museum and was a Booster and Volunteer with Lakeshore Women’s Club.
Doug was predeceased by his parents; and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Paula, of Jacksonville; son, Neil Castleberry (Jennifer), of Jacksonville; 2 grandsons, Cole and Leo, of Jacksonville; Stepdaughters, Dawn Williams, of Jacksonville FL, Kimberly Milligan Johnston (Cary) of Jacksonville, Drake Milligan, of Atlanta GA, and Haleigh Milligan, of Gainesville FL; sister, Lynn Whitman (Dennis), of Henderson NC; and numerous relatives in Arizona and Alabama.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 7:30 PM at Hardge-Giddens Riverside Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205. The Visitation will begin at the Funeral Home at 6 PM. Burial will be on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 11 AM, with an arrival at 10:30 AM, at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218
