Douglas “Doug” Wesley Bennett, 75, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away Friday, August 3, 2018 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born to John Q. and Sadie Bennett on August 30, 1942 in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1961. Doug was an avid fox hunter and outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Doug will be remembered for his calm demeanor, words of wisdom, kind heart, and dry sense of humor, who always knew what to say. He was the most gentle, caring, hard-working man, and was the epitome of a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather “Pots,” who touched the lives of countless individuals.
Preceded in death by his father and mother, John Q. and Sadie Bennett; sisters, Rebecca Tekin, Ruth Tyler, and Burmah Ricketts; and brothers, William “Jack” Bennett and Frank Bennett.
Doug is survived by his wife of 56½ years, Linda Bennett; son, Ralph Bennett (Crystal) of Jacksonville Beach; daughters, Tracy Zittrower (Edwin) of Jacksonville and Cheree Williams (Chad) of Green Cove Springs; grandchildren, Jessica Value (Scott), Trevor Zittrower (Lauren), Kayli Zittrower and Bailee Bennett; great-grandchildren, Isla Value and Asher Value, sister Patricia “Trish” Ward, and numerous other family members.
Friends and family are invited to the viewing on Wednesday, August 8, from 1:00-2:00 pm at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home located at 940 Cesery Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with the Reverends Wayne Dinsbeer and Jack Dinsbeer officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Park Cemetery.
