Dorothy Roach

Dorothy Christopher Roach, 90, of Jacksonville, passed away on March 5, 2011 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born on December 19, 1920 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio to the late Bert B. and Rexie N. (Wyatt) Christopher. Dorothy was raised in St. Augustine, and was a graduate of the Ketterlinus High School. She worked as a Secretary at the Times Union in Jacksonville, then joined the United States Navy from 1943 – 1946. She was a Yeoman First Class, stationed in Washington, DC and was a WWII Veteran. After the Navy, she worked as a Legal Secretary, a Librarian at the Good Council College in White Plains, NY, and a Secretary at the University of Georgia. She was active with the Girls Scouts of America in White Plains, NY, and was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jacksonville. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, William J. Roach of Jacksonville. Additional survivors include her daughters, Sharon Eileen Young (James) of Mt. Pisgah, Iowa; and Patricia Lee Holley (Christopher) of Jacksonville; her grandchildren, Raymond E. Walker and Christina M. McEuen, both of Jacksonville, Kate Lynn D’Avignon of Middlebury, Vermont, and Jennifer Young of Columbia, Missouri; her great-grandchildren, William McEuen, Jeffrey McEuen, Trystan Walker, Ayden Walker, Desirea Sluder and Kayla Sluder, all of Jacksonville, Lucas D'Avignon and Levy D'Avignon, both of Middlebury, Vermont; her sister, Betty Jane Sprague (Harold) of Belfast, Maine; her brothers, C. Harold Christopher (Sue) and Franklin Christopher (Moncita), both of Wimauma, Florida. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:00 pm on Thursday, March 10th in the St. Joseph’s Historic Church, 4214 Loretto Rd. Jacksonville, with Father Daniel Cody as Celebrant, followed by interment in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Dorothy to the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
