Dorothy Grimes Hawkins

Dorothy G. Hawkins, age 86 of Hilliard, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Friday May 8, 2020. She passed away at home surround by loved ones. She was a resident of Jacksonville, Florida for 50 years before moving to Hilliard, Florida in October 2018 to reside with her daughter.

Dorothy was born on July 22, 1933 in Jones County, North Carolina to Claude and Annie Grimes. She was the second child of three children. She married Earl Hawkins in 1958 and they lived in South Carolina, North Carolina and Texas before moving to Florida.

She was a home maker until their last child started school. Then she began working at Hyde Park Elementary School until she retired in 2002. She loved teaching the children. After retiring she then taught kindergarten at her church. She was a devoted Christian and loved her church family.

She is preceded in death by her husband Earl D. Hawkins. Sons Dennis DeBruhl, Wayne Smith and Eddie Hawkins. Daughters Janice Dale, Ann Smith and Suzi Barry.

She is survived by her children David (Sharon) DeBruhl, Greg Hawkins, Jennifer Mancini, Kim (Eric) Martin, Chris (Annie) Hawkins and Brandi Hawkins. Son-in-law Patrick Barry; daughter-in-law Merle Smith and many grand, great and great-great-grandchildren.

Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday May 16, 2020 at Bethel Holiness Church, 5032 Woodcrest Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32202. A visitation will be held at 10am. The service will begin at 11am followed by gravesite services.
